Do GLP-1 Patches, Gummies, and Drops Actually Work?
Short answer: no. GLP-1 patches, gummies, drops, and "boosters" sold as supplements are not the same thing as prescription GLP-1 medications, and there is no published clinical-trial evidence that they produce meaningful weight loss. The weight-loss data this calculator uses (STEP 1, SURMOUNT-1) comes exclusively from studies of prescription injectable medications, not supplements.
Why these products are different
Prescription GLP-1 medications are synthetic peptides, large molecules that cannot survive digestion or absorb meaningfully through the skin. That's why the FDA-approved versions are either injected or, in the case of Rybelsus, taken as a specially-formulated tablet on a strict empty-stomach protocol. A transdermal patch or a gummy has no established mechanism to deliver a peptide of that size into the bloodstream at a meaningful dose.
What "GLP-1 boosting" supplements typically contain
Products marketed to "increase GLP-1 naturally" often contain fiber, berberine, or other ingredients that may have modest effects on digestion or blood sugar, but they are not equivalent to, and have not been shown to replicate, the effects of prescription GLP-1 receptor agonists in clinical trials.
How to tell the difference
If a product doesn't require a prescription, isn't dispensed by a pharmacy, and isn't backed by its own published clinical trial data, it isn't the medication this calculator's estimates are modeled on. The FDA has issued public warnings about counterfeit and unauthorized GLP-1 products.
