Ozempic vs. Wegovy: Same Drug, Different Uses
Short answer: Ozempic and Wegovy contain the same active ingredient, semaglutide, made by the same company. The difference is the approved use and the dose. Ozempic is approved for type 2 diabetes (and related heart and kidney uses). Wegovy is approved for weight management and other conditions, at higher doses.

Why the doses differ
Wegovy's maintenance doses are higher than Ozempic's because the weight-management studies tested higher doses. The two brands are not dose-for-dose interchangeable, and they are not supplied in the same pens.
Coverage and cost
Insurers often cover a medication only for its labeled use. A plan may cover Ozempic for type 2 diabetes but not for weight loss, and may cover Wegovy for weight management under different rules. Check with your plan for your specific situation.
